Pure Mulberry Silk Pillowcases, 22 Momme

BEDLAM's silk pillow covers are made from grade 6A long-fibre mulberry silk at 22 momme, with silk on both sides, and measure 20 x 26 inches. Available in five colours — silver, rose gold, cream, copper and black — plain or monogrammed with your initials, and delivered in a kraft storage box.

What the specifications actually mean

Grade 6A — the highest grade of mulberry silk, spun from the longest and most uniform fibres. Lower grades use shorter fibres that pill and wear faster.
22 momme — momme measures the weight and density of silk. Nineteen is the usual minimum for a pillowcase; 22 is denser, more durable and holds its finish for longer.
Silk on both sides — many silk pillowcases use silk on the face and cotton or polyester on the reverse. Both sides of ours are pure mulberry silk.
20 x 26 inches — fits standard and queen pillows.

Silk or satin — what is the difference?

Satin is a weave, not a fibre. A satin pillowcase is usually polyester finished to look like silk. It shares the smooth surface, but not the breathability, temperature regulation or naturally hypoallergenic properties of real silk. Everything in this collection is 100% mulberry silk.

How to wash a silk pillowcase

Hand washing is best. Use cool water below 30°C and a silk or delicates detergent, turn the pillowcase inside out, and swish gently for a few minutes — never scrub, wring or twist. Roll it in a clean towel to press out the water.

If you prefer to machine wash, place it in a mesh laundry bag, use the delicate or silk cycle with cold water and a low spin, and wash it only with other delicates.

Never tumble dry and never dry in direct sunlight — hang or lay flat indoors. Avoid bleach, fabric softener, optical brighteners and enzyme-heavy detergents. Wash every five to seven days, or every three to four if you use rich night creams or hair oils.
